Dæg can store solar energy within his special golden bracers. This energy fades a bit over time. He must therefore spend at least some time each day absorbing energy in preparation for the night ahead. Rainy days are his least favorite kind, and they leave him feeling – not perhaps physically, but definitely emotionally and functionally – weakened.
When he releases energy, it is in the same form as he absorbed it. That is, as solar radiation. It has both light and heat, and all other properties relating to sunlight. Characters who are naturally weak to sunlight will be harmed as if it were direct from the sun. Even those who are not may find themselves burned, blinded, or otherwise maimed if they find themselves on the wrong end of it. And then there's the risk of melanoma…let's not even talk about that.
At all times, so long as he has a sufficient store of solar energy, Dæg is surrounded by a corona-like aura of golden light, although it is most noticeable in dark places or when he is in front of a darker object. The aura appears as a thin outline around his form, projecting about a twelfth of an inch out from his body. This is mostly a visual effect and will not, most likely, cause pain on contact. It's not like he's an electric fence or anything. He's just a bright guy.
Strengths/Weaknesses
Strengths- Sunlight – Dæg thrives in it. When it he is in direct sunlight, Dæg has a nearly infinite supply of energy from which to draw, the only limiting factor being how fast he can draw it. Being in sunlight also allows him to heal his body of hurts and refresh his store of solar energy.
- Piercing eyesight – Dæg's eyes can peer deep into dark places, so that little can hide from his sight, unless by powerful supernatural obfuscation. He can also see very keenly when staring into bright lights.
- Resistance to burning – The solar mage has little fear of things which burn, being touched by the sun itself. This isn't to say he can't be burned, but it will take a very powerful and sustained source to cause actual harm to him. He can also drink hot tea in one gulp! Score!
- Resistance to night-based curses – The influence of the sun keeps the sun-follower from being changed into a vampire, werewolf, zombie, etc. So long as he's not absolutely sun-starved, he has no fear of the creatures of darkness – at least, of becoming one of them.
- Limited self-healing – When he is either in direct sunlight or has sufficient store, he can heal minor wounds. Severe wounds would take a great portion of his power to heal, even when he's in sunlight. Dismemberment or disembowelment? Yeah, that'd kill him. He cannot heal others by this method who are not also sun-followers, as it would cause more harm than anything else.
Weaknesses
- Lack of Sunlight – Dæg's store of solar energy depletes itself over time, even if he doesn't make active use of it. Therefore, he must constantly be recharging it. A few days without sun will severely weaken him. A week or more without access to at least some sunlight will cause him to grow sick.
- Hypervisibility – Guy can't play hide-n-seek worth anything. Think about it. Pretty easy to spot when you've got a bright gold outline around you.
- Mortality – Although he ages at a much-slowed rate, he is mortal. He will eventually die, and he can be killed.
- Quick temper – Can get him into trouble. He also acts without thinking quite often. He should really work on that.
- Combat skills – Apart from using solar energy, he doesn't really have any fighting skill. Not all that physically strong or deft of movement. Good at dodging, but that'll only get you so far.
